Free STEM Career Exploration Resources Both Students and Teachers Love! Career Blade & Learning Blade
Join this interactive session to explore Career Blade, Learning Blade, and a new system for high school students launching in June 2022! These are free statewide STEM career awareness programs aligned to Arkansas academic standards.

Career Blade was introduced in Arkansas in February 2022. It is a free, web-based K-12 resource for teachers to integrate career pathways relevant to their specific economic region. For instance, a Springdale teacher will be able to visit the website and easily find downloadable, subject-based, and grade-appropriate lesson plans for actual career pathways offered in the Northwest Arkansas economic region. Lesson plans include everything you need to bring career exploration to life in the classroom, including contact information of companies that want to engage with students and meet their future workforce. Visit www.CareerBladeArkansas.com to access these free K-12 resources.

Learning Blade, designed for grades 5-9, contains hundreds of online STEM-focused “mission” lessons that lead students through exploring technologies and careers while practicing academic skills aligned to Arkansas standards. In addition, teachers have access to dozens of lesson plans that support innovative STEM project-based learning using common materials found in the classroom. Now includes a 20-hour "Intro to Coding" course designed to meet the Coding Block requirement in Middle School. Sign up for your free Learning Blade account provided by Governor Hutchinson's Ready for Life initiative, the ADE, in partnership with the APSRC at www.learningblade.com/AR.

Culturally Responsive Teaching
This session will investigate Zaretta Hammond’s Ready for Rigor framework from her book Culturally Responsive Teaching and The Brain: Promoting Authentic Engagement and Rigor Among Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students. Every student in our classroom should have the right to experience independent learning; however, each student’s readiness for the rigor it takes to be an independent learner is not the same. The components of awareness, learning partnerships, information processing, and the learning environment all play a role in being a culturally responsive teacher. Join us as we take a deeper look at the Ready for Rigor framework to understand better what it takes to build an independent learner who thrives when faced with a learning challenge.

K-12 RTI: Who's Engaged?
This session will focus on the engagement piece (often called the "Will" issue) in Response to Intervention (RTI) in virtual and hybrid settings. However, we feel that our process would be equally effective in a traditional face to face setting and welcome all attendees. We will share what we have done (what worked and what did not), how we survived the virtual influx of the 2020-2021 school year, and how we have adjusted and improved our process for the 2021-2022 school year. We will share our detailed sequential process, focusing on how we manage all the data and moving pieces using Google Forms, Google Sheets, and Google Docs.. As an added bonus we will include how our RTI team uses technology to collaborate with teachers, advisors, counselors, social workers, and admin to ensure that each student's individual needs are being addressed to offer them the best possible opportunity for success in virtual.
